Just found some fruit a while back and gnats all around it. What should I do?

So I'm cleaning out my room because I'm done with finals and I see some tangerines that i bought a while back...and there are gnats all around them and in that area. What kind of approach should I take in getting this disposed of relatively quickly and without much interference with the gnats. I was thinking of getting a big trash bag and just doing it as fast as I can, but then again I don't know.. Any help would be great, thanks!
