What would you do to improve part one of this longish narrative poem?

Thank God for poets who write long poems when what are being posted nowadays are mostly just short easy ones. Length honors the art. Effort is sacrifice. It is service. It keeps the art alive. This poem is not easy and it deserves our deepest admiration and respect.
