White worms in lawn soil/moss?

Yesterday we dug out a shovel full of dirt under our new swing set which is located in the shady, mossy, moist part of our yard. In this shovel full we saw probably a hundred white worms about an inch long - maybe a little less. I did not see any black heads or distinguishable marks on them. We live in Washington state. Does anyone know what these could be - other than fungus gnats or termite larvae? (both of those seem to have black heads) these were completely white. Thank you
