How do you make a pound cake less dense?

I made a strawberry cream cheese swirl pound cake I got from Southernn Living magazine(delicious!), and I've been keeping it in the refrigerator so summer gnats don't encircle it, but it's cmpacted so much I don't even want to eat it...
